SS-31, also known as elamipretide (MTP-131), is a cell-permeable aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds the phospholipid cardiolipin. Its D-amino acid and dimethyltyrosine (Dmt) residues confer resistance to peptidase degradation. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder and ships from Ontario, Canada. Where the name comes from
SS-31 belongs to the Szeto–Schiller (SS) series of peptides, named after researchers Hazel Szeto and Peter Schiller. Its four residues are D-arginine, 2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine (Dmt), lysine and phenylalanine amide. The alternating positive charges and aromatic rings are why it's described as an aromatic-cationic peptide.

WHAT IS DMT IN THE SEQUENCE?
2′,6′-dimethyltyrosine, a modified tyrosine. Together with the D-arginine, it is one of the two non-standard residues in SS-31.
SS-31 50MG VS 10MG — WHICH SIZE?
Same material and purity standard in both. The 50 mg vial costs less per milligram; the 10 mg vial is the smaller quantity.
IS SS-31 THE SAME AS ELAMIPRETIDE?
Yes. SS-31 is the research designation and Elamipretide is the international nonproprietary name for the same compound. It has also appeared in the literature as MTP-131.
HOW SHOULD SS-31 BE STORED AND RECONSTITUTED?
Sealed vials: freezer for long-term storage, fridge for short-term, away from light and moisture. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water, sold separately. Once reconstituted, keep it in the fridge away from light.
